Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me? Therapy can be beneficial for many people. If you're feeling hesitant or unsure, it's natural—there are many unknowns when beginning therapy. Like a well-tuned orchestra, successful therapy involves a few key elements, with the most crucial being the relationship between therapist and client. When you feel safety and trust with someone, opening up becomes easier, although this can sometimes take time. Since every individual is unique, the therapist and client work together to define what success looks like for you. Therapy can be helpful if you're dealing with challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, or life transitions. It’s also valuable for personal growth and deepening self-understanding.

What will my first session look like? In the initial session, we will begin with some "housekeeping" items, like the consent form. Then we will explore what brings you to therapy, what your goals are, and how we can work together to support your needs moving forward.

How long does therapy usually take? Session lengths: individual sessions are typically 50 minutes long. Couple and family sessions are usually longer. Duration: the number of sessions required varies based on individual goals. Some people see improvement in a few sessions, while others engage in longer-term work for deeper growth.

Do you offer in person or online sessions? I currently offer online sessions using Zoom or Microsoft Teams. If you have any questions about what this looks like, please feel free to contact me. In-person sessions may be offered on rare occasions for couple or family therapy.

What types of therapy do you offer? My work is informed by various theories that are supported by research, such as Internal Family Systems, Emotion-focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, and Existential Therapy.

How do I get started? To set up a counselling session please fill out the contact form above, and include your preferred contact method (phone or email). If you are unsure whether or not you would like to book a full session, we can set up a 15 minute consultation. Please note that until we review and sign the consent form, you are not considered a client.
